Membership is open to anyone who believes in the Mission and Purposes of National Parent Teacher Association. Individual members may belong to any number of PTAs and pay dues in each. Every person who joins a local PTA automatically becomes a member of both the state and National PTAs. Together we are a powerful voice for children. With your help, we can continue to work toward PTA's goal of a quality education and nurturing environment for every child.
Advocacy: Advocacy is the act of mobilizing individuals and local PTA’s to work with the state and National PTA’s to spark changes in programs and policies that benefit children. Volunteers would provide awareness of current issues of state and national concern to the membership monthly, get people thinking about what they can do in their own community to improve laws, policies and conditions, motivate them to become involved, and keep members updated regularly regarding issues to the local school.
Appreciation and Hospitality: The Appreciations and Hospitality Committee is responsible for providing food and hospitality for guests at events at our school. In the past, they have provided appreciation luncheons for our Star Staff on the first staff workday of the school year and for the four Early Release Days throughout the year. They have sponsored the Staff Appreciation Week in May, which honors all members of our Star Staff. They’ve also helped us provide small tokens of appreciation to our staff throughout the year.
Awards: This committee is responsible for recognizing special achievements throughout the year, which will include the Wake County PTA Council & State awards, as well as recognition of outstanding board members/PTA programs. Chair:
Box Tops for Education: This committee is responsible for collecting, counting and sending in General Mills box tops collected from each classroom.
Character Education: This committee will emphasize character education through the infusion of our 9 character traits into new and existing curricula and social activities.
Cultural Arts: The chair of this committee will attend the United Arts Council kick-off (usually held in the summer) to view different performers/programs that will then present to each grade level throughout the school year.
Directory: Compiles, coordinates and produces phone and address listing of students by class.
Family Fun Night: The Family Fun Night Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating the our pizza & bingo fundraiser event for the spring. This is an event for the whole family to enjoy with a pizza dinner, silent auction, balloon pop and bingo games with prizes.
Fall Festival: Volunteers needed to help with various aspects of this fun-filled program that will be held in the fall.
Gradeparent: Liaison between classroom grade parents and the PTA for functions such as the NC Fall Festival, PTA Programs, and teacher luncheons.
Membership: This committee distributes PTA membership applications/cards and offers incentives to join the PTA. The chairperson is responsible for communicating membership numbers to the treasurer and for submitting award applications to the State PTA.
Newsletter: This committee is responsible for publishing the Morrisville Star Messenger on a monthly basis.
Parent Education: This committee will provide workshops for parents on the K-5 curriculum, county assessments, new initiatives or programs, and other topics of interest.
Reflections: This committee will organize and assist children in applying for the annual Wake County Reflections Program. This program encourages students to express themselves through their own original work.
Safety and Health: Our award-winning Safety and Health Committee is responsible for coordinating any Safety and Health events at the school, as well as supporting initiatives put forth by the Safety and Health arm of the Morrisville School Improvement Team. In the past, this has included handling staff CPR training, assisting with Safety Patrol issues, and supporting the school’s annual Heart Healthy Celebration in February. Additionally, this committee will work closely with Coach Brady to plan and coordinate volunteers for field days in the fall and the marathon in the spring.
Science Education: Volunteers will help plan and participate in new Science Education initiatives in the classroom. Teach prepared science materials, prepare planned science kits, or help plan science kits with the teachers. No science background is required. Many volunteers are needed.
Science Go Round: This committee is responsible for providing students with various hands-on science activities through various sources.
